"The very last of the 1980 casks, distilled during the golden age of peated Brora. Stored separately for safe keeping, reunited for this final 1980 release. A fitting tribute to a great legacy aged in American Oak for 40 years, its fragrant smokiness lingers in the long, warming finish.”

“The Brora distillery closed in 1983 and very little of its whisky now remains. We kept back the three hogsheads in this superb example for a special reason; they are the very last of our 1980 casks, distilled during the golden age of peated Brora. Stored separately for safe keeping, I have re-united them for this final 1980 release.
When I first nosed Brora in the 80s I was seeking ideas for blends based on specific aromas and flavours. In that context, Brora simply defined a particular waxy and peaty style. As yet we had no sense of how its reputation as a single malt would grow. One of the joys of my career has been helping that story unfold over the years.
At forty years of age, this relaxed superstar has a lightly drying aroma, with mineral and maritime top notes backed by soft notes of almond oil and light smoke. The texture is smoothly waxy and the rounded taste is sweet and smoky, with an enticing bittersweet note of burnt caramel and a sprinkle of salt. Fragrant smokiness lingers in the long, warming finish.
The wheel now comes full circle as the distillery re-opens, to bring the whisky connoisseur fine discoveries in the future. As it does, I hope this final ultra-rare release of 1980 Brora pays fitting tribute to a great legacy.”
